Refugee Development Center

Their mission is to cultivate a welcoming, thriving community that collaborates with refugees and newcomers through education, engagement and support.  The Refugee Development Center (RDC) is a grassroots organization offering formal and informal learning opportunities in an open and inclusive setting. The RDC opened in 2002 because the Greater Lansing community identified service area gaps for newcomer populations seeking self-sufficiency. The common denominator in the gaps identified revolved around education, and hence, the mission of the center was born. Today, the RDC helps serve as the link between newcomer populations and the private, public, and faith-based communities of Ingham County.  Cite:

Ethics: Is there Really a Grey Area?


Presenter: Laurie A. Nickson, CMP, Specialist, Office of Great Start, MI Dept. of Education; Director of Professional Programs, MI Association for the Education of Young Children; President, MiSGMP

Following an overview of the definition of ethics, explore the SGMP Code of Ethics which are guidelines for professional conduct and compliance. Learn how issues of ethics can derail even the best of intentions and irreparably harm one’s reputation, personally and professionally. Understand that what some think is OK or expected practice may indeed be ethically questionable. Finally, listen to a panel of planners and suppliers share their perspectives and stories about ethical issues faced specific to the meeting industry.
