Laurie Nickson, CMP
Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children/Michigan Department of Education

Laurie has served on the MiSGMP Board of Directors since 2011 in the position of 1st Vice President and, in 2015, accepted an appointment to Chapter President.  She is the chair of the Special Events Committee coordinating the Annual Auction and Awards Banquet, Road Rally and, new this year, Knowledge Quest. Laurie has written four interactive mock court cases that have been well received at MiSGMP monthly meetings and NEC.  Laurie is dedicated to working on behalf of MiSGMP  to provide quality education events and members services. She looks forward to the opportunity to continue representing MiSGMP as Chapter President. 

  

Tammy Novak
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services

Tammy works for the MDHHS in the Office of Workforce Development & Training Division.  Her 20 years of State service have been at MDOC, MDOT, MSP, Treasury, and DTMB, creating policies/procedures, and paying close attention to detail to ensure each office is run smoothly.  She is also a SOM Red Cross blood drive coordinator, serving three Lansing locations.  She is a current Board Director for MiSGMP, has earned her GMS certificate, is Board Liaison for the Membership Committee, and member of the 2018 Superheroes Campaign.  Tammy brings organization and a wealth of government networking expertise to the board.


Heidi Schmitt
Experience Grand Rapids

Heidi has been in the hospitality industry for 28 years.  Married for 25 years with two children, Alec, 23 and Lydia, 21. 

A MiSGMP member for 8 years and recipient of the 2015 Supplier of the Year Award. I’m currently Second Vice President and my next goals are:

  • Add value and monitor ROI for members as they engage in sponsorships for yearly events. 
  • Offer quality, charitable organizations and ensure donations are used appropriately and for the greater good. 

 

Anissa Damon
Michigan Public Health Institute

Anissa Damon is a CMPT and CGMP, who has for the past ten years, has planned over 65 events annually. Anissa was named “Planner of the Year” in 2009 and 2015 by the MiSGMP. Anissa was awarded in 2014 Michigan Chapter’s Finest Meeting Planner by the MPI- Michigan Chapter.  She is responsible for all aspects of training which include requesting RFPs for site selection, coordinating continuing education credits, rooming  and travel for staff, speakers and attendees, compiling registration information, AV equipment and complete oversight of the event once onsite, including reporting ROI to clients upon completion of their events.


Stacy Yerby, CGMP
Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau

Stacy has been in the industry for 10+ years - the last 4 with the DMCVB. She is a graduate of The School of Hospitality Business at MSU and resides in Detroit with her husband Tyler and their two children, Eleanor and Jack.

 As treasurer, my main responsibility is maintaining our budget, payments received and bills owed. We are fortunate to have a ‘healthy’ chapter and it is my goal to continue to manage our budget in a way that will allow us to continue funding high quality presenters.



Charnitamy (Char) Alexander
Michigan Military and Veterans Affair Agency

Greetings! I eagerly joined SGMP over six years ago.  I have been employed with the State of Michigan for 15 years, currently serving as a Senior Executive Management Assistant with the Military and Veterans Affairs Agency.

My SGMP membership has afforded me opportunities to meet and network with government professionals from all over the country.  I have served on Local and National Committees and earned the Government Meeting Specialist certification.

I am very active in my community and look forward to bridging gaps!  I am a team player who can transition into leadership role when necessary!

 

Shelley Long
Michigan Association of Non-public Schools


I am blessed to be the Administrative Assistant for the Michigan Association of Non-public Schools since December of 2016. Prior, I was with Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) for 12 years. It was during my time at MNA that I was introduced to SGMP – and have been a planner member ever since. I am currently on the Community Service and Membership Committees. I am excited to take my next step with SGMP and join the board as a Director. I will bring enthusiasm, passion, and 100% commitment to SGMP members and to the board. SGMP – my professional home!

 

Terese McInnis
Traverse City Tourism

Terese is a Senior Sales Manager with Traverse City Tourism. She has been in the hospitality industry for over 29 years serving on many committees and boards for various associations over the years. She has been a member of SGMP for the past 7 years while working for Traverse City Tourism, and an additional 3 years prior to that. In her current role with the TCT, Terese works with the government, state association and Lansing area corporate markets promoting the Grand Traverse region for their meetings and events.
